Sent from my iPhone
The out-of-the-box Sent from my iPhone message … We see this email sign off so frequently that many of us hardly give it a second notice. But those four words send a big message. If you’re sending business emails from your mobile device and use Sent from my iPhone as your signature instead of some combination of a courteous closing, contact information, and company information, this post is for you!
There are a number of reasons why you may have Sent from my iPhone in the signature of your mobile email:
You’re excusing typos in advance.
You don’t know how to change it.
You don’t care to change it.
You like promoting Apple.
Signatures in mobile email can be used to provide important identifying information for the receiver. The signature area is prime real estate to link to your website, social media, include your contact information, and build brand awareness by including your logo. Including this information is important not only from the contact aspect, but also for building the credibility of your communication. And credibility is critical, even if you’re sending emails on the go!
Getting back to my list of four reasons from above: Let’s approach each of them. If you really want to excuse typos, you can still add your contact information along with a friendly disclaimer such as “Apologies for any typos - this message was sent from my mobile device.” If you don’t know how to change your signature, a quick Google should provide you with about 33 million answers. And finally, if you don’t care to change it, we’ll assume Apple is compensating you so well for the promos that you don’t need to have a personalized signature on your mobile email.
A good email signature doesn’t need to contain a large amount of information to be professional. A few lines of contact information subliminally lets the recipient know that you care about details. With nearly half of all emails opened on mobile devices, mobile signatures are similar to a business card.
