The Sweetness of Low-Hanging Fruit

Growing up in the rural Midwest, my grandparents had a lovely orchard. Within their orchard grew trees of all kinds: apples, pears, pecans, and cherries, to name a few. As children, my brother and I spent quite a bit of time with our grandparents and we loved fresh fruit from their orchard. I particularly enjoyed the cherries. When the cherries were in season, I would gaze up at the delicious, beautiful fruit that hung on the upper branches. It always seemed like the most tantalizing cherries were far up the tree. I told my grandfather once that I needed a ladder to reach the best fruit. He laughed, and showed me how I was just tall enough to eat some really tasty cherries just by digging around through the branches that were completely within my reach.

As marketers, we are always reaching for the next best tool to enhance our strategies. Technology evolves on a daily basis, providing endless new opportunities to appeal to an audience. For example, you may be one of the millions of early adopters who signed up for ChatGPT and you can’t wait to let AI work for you. However, so often the next best thing allures us while our rainy day list grows quietly yet significantly. Are you spending your time trying to figure out Facebook Reels while your website is riddled with issues like broken links and outdated feature stories? Albeit tedious at times, easy updates can make a huge difference in the impact of your marketing efforts.

If you’re looking for a place to start improving your marketing strategy, my first recommendation is to harvest the low-hanging fruit. Improve and update what you’ve got, then bring out your ladder to reach the appealing fruit on the higher branches. Need help getting started? I’m here for you!
